David Castaneda

My story 

I am a visual artist with professional skills in painting, sculpture, illustration, and graphic design. I am also a author of the book Only Images-SoulbirdⒸ.' I am passionate about actively engaging with the community, and I have a track of more than four years of record developing artistic demonstrations and exhibitions as visual artist and also as the residency artist of Winsor & Newton and Liquitex, across Victoria and Tasmania, with occasional events in New South Wales.

In 2012, I earned my bachelor's degree in visual arts in Bogotá, Colombia, and was awarded an academic scholarship in recognition of my artistic skills.

From 2007 to 2012, I dedicated myself to illustration for children's books, editorials, and comic books, collaborating closely with the creative and design departments. Notably, I contributed to various significant editorials and artistic companies, including projects for Winsor&Newton, McGraw Hill in New York, Pan Americana Inc. Editorial in Puerto Rico, and Balboa Press.

In 2008, I worked in the 2D-3D animation department at Oruga-films, collaborating directly with directors and the creative design team on the short-film project titled 'En Agosto' (In August). 'En Agosto' achieved remarkable popularity and success, receiving numerous national and international short-film awards. You can watch it here

Since 2010, I have actively participated in the visual arts scene across several countries in America, Europe, and Australia, receiving notable awards for my work. Notable recognitions include an honourable mention in 2018 at the Wyndham Art Prize 2018 in Wyndham, VIC. Additionally, I received two honourable mentions in 2010 and 2012 at Galeria Casa Cuadrada in Colombia. Thanks to these recognitions, Casa Cuadrada decided to include me as part of the select group of artists represented by Casa Cuadrada Gallery in Bogota, Colombia, and Zurich, Switzerland until 2016.

Since my arrival in Australia in 2016, I have had the opportunity to get involved in the local art scene through my work with the community, offering art classes as a volunteer in community centres in Melbourne, Australia. I have also participated in various art exhibitions and masterclasses, among the noteworthy ones, I can mention classes at the National Gallery of Victoria, the Watercolour Art Society of Victoria, and the Docklands State Library, Officeworks and Spotlight stores. I also had the fortune of being part of the talent scouting team at Comic-Con (2017-18) and working as a guest artist at the Mad-Man event (2019). Furthermore, I had the honour of being an invited judge at the 5x5 event of Illustrators Australia in 2018.

Besides, I also worked as watercolour teacher at Saltwater cultural centre during the period of 2018-2019

Adding, as a visual artist, I am proud to be part of the permanent collection of the Peninsula Art Society. I also had the honour of donating an artwork to be auctioned at Officeworks Mentone for charitable purposes.
